Hi! I’m Rachel Yancey, creator of Bold City Hair. I am your Jacksonville hair stylist, hair colorist, hair extension specialist, and hair extension educator.

I created BCH in 2015 and have been a working stylist since 2009, specializing in hair extensions for the last ten plus years. I love being creative and while drawing is one of my favorite hobbies, I also love creating custom looks and makeovers for my clients. Your personal style and personality are important factors in creating custom looks. Having references is an important tool for communicating with your stylist. I have heard many times ‘I don’t know how to explain it.’ Find pictures and we can evaluate and give you fabulous hair!

I believe your hair should look great every day of the year, not just at the salon. I am committed to giving my clients the best customer service, freshest ideas and emerging trends. I believe in giving clients education and a hair care routine that works to their suites, so they can have great hair at home too. I take pride in my career and love staying on my toes with continuing education, whether it is learning or teaching!

I started out young in all kinds of art classes, naturally thriving on anything creative. My dad has been a Barber for over 40 years with his own shop, and I always knew I wanted to do hair. However, my parents wanted me to go to college so I went for Graphic Design, still keeping my creativity flowing. But sitting at the desk wasn’t for me. I went to hair school and I’ve been at it since! I’ve worked at salons in Jacksonville such as Fusion Salon, Verde Eco Salon, Elite Salon & Day Spa, and West Coast Hair Design. I soon followed my move to the salon with a Bachelors Degree in Supervision and Business Management always with the plan to one day have my very own salon.

I am a Master Colorist and Hair Extension Specialist. I use hair color by Davines North America, and I specialize in the hand tied weft extensions, fusion, I-tip (or beads), and Tape-In hair extension methods. Some hair extension brands I love to use are SILX Global Hair Extensions, Platform hair extensions, Bombshell hair extensions(Habit Hand Tied), DreamCatchers, and Halo Couture. Only the finest quality 100% Remy human hair is used regardless of method.

I have always had a naturally inquisitive mind and thrive for learning. I enjoy my career and love being able to perfect my craft and evolve. I believe in stylists supporting stylists and forward thinking to help each other grow. I take pride in what I do and hope you find value in my investments.

Health & Wellness

Hi guys! This is something I am passionate about. It’s about changing lives through natural 100% plant based medicine. I wouldn’t be telling you about it if I haven’t tried it, or seen results, and all the miracle stories are just amazing!

There are three sets of wellness products that I sell and am an advocate for; Brizio Pure Suthe CBD, Tranont Health enzymes, and Icaria liquid glow collagen.

First of all, the results my clients and I have been seeing and feeling are truly amazing! The reason I started getting interested or even heard about Tranont wellness was from my client, Tammy Meyer, who was taking Icaria liquid collagen. She told me about it but it wasn’t until four months later we saw the results for our own eyes. Her hair growth was unbelievable. Over four inches of growth in just four months! I usually take progress pictures for all of my hair extension clients to track how their natural hair is still healthy and growing. So I showed Tammy her before and after picture and she couldn’t even believe it. Now here we are, changing lives, and that’s just one of the amazing products offered!

Now that was just one amazing story about the liquid collagen. Tranont Health has enzymes to help your body heal better and function better, and Brizio Pure Suthe CBD helps with a plethora of ailments but most commonly known for its aid in relieving pain and anxiety. Using the products in combination that these two companies provide…I can’t begin to tell you how exciting the results can be. So many people are treating things such as kidney failure, insomnia, pain, anxiety, and so much more!

While these are natural products, I always recommend checking with your healthcare professional to make sure they won’t interfere with anything else you might be taking in the pharmaceutical realm. There are some things you may have to take in this realm but limiting them would be beneficial.

Hair Care Tips

Care for Your Hair

Follow these little tips and tricks to lengthen the life of your luscious long locks

Wash

Use only professional products that are paraben and sulfate free. Apply a hair mask (a stronger conditioner) every 3-5 times you wash your hair to lengthen the life of your hair extensions. Refrain from washing your extensions more than 2-3 times a week.

Products

A minimum of two products are essential to keep your extensions in tip top shape:

  • Leave-in conditioner with heat-protectant capability and
  • Moisturizing oil

Apply the leave-in conditioner to your hair, after washing, but while it’s still wet. The oil should be applied daily to wet and/or dry hair, before and/or after styling as well. Remember, the extension hair is no longer ‘living’ and doesn’t get the natural oils it normally would so we have to replenish it.

Drying and styling

After showering, use a towel to carefully blot your extensions dry. While using your blow dryer, flat iron and curling iron it’s imperative to keep the heat settings on low (below 350 degrees). Blow dry and style often to keep your extensions smooth. Comb often using a Wet Brush of wide-tooth comb – start at the bottom of your hair and work your way to the top.

Sleeping

Braid extensions before bed to keep them from tangling. Use a silk pillowcase for less friction. Also keep in mind that going to bed with wet hair can cause your hair and extensions to mat and knot.

Swimming and adventuring

Summer is the BOMB; however, all it brings is hard on extensions. Hair is like a sponge and will soak up whatever liquid it comes in contact with first (especially if its damaged or on the drier side). So, to protect your hair and extensions from drying out, remember this – if you choose to swim with your extensions, wet your hair, add a generous amount of leave-in conditioner and braid your hair before entering the water. Use a clarifying shampoo and very moisturizing conditioner when you’re done. Take your time combing it out. Bold City Hair will not be liable for any negative reaction that may occur. Limit contact with salt water and chlorine (ocean or pool).

Coloring

Coloring your extensions can change the integrity of the extension; however if your choose to do so, we suggest a demi- or semi-permanent color. Never use any lightener or bleach on the extensions. Any coloring should be done by a licensed professional. For best results, contact your Bold City Hair certified stylist.

Davines View hair color

Bold City Hair is now proud to offer View by Davines. View is Davines’ new Demi permanent hair color system, consisting of over 35 nuances,  with an acidic pH that offers extraordinary shine and fullness to the hair.

It’s formulated respecting the environment, with 88% to 93% natural origin ingredients and 95% to 99% biodegradable ones. This is one of the reasons I love Davines so much!

Davines’ Research and Development Laboratory developed View, a delicate non-committing demi-permanent color, that reduces the risk of hair breakage, protects the hair structure and guarantees extreme shine.

Health to Wealth

Hi guys! This is something I am passionate about. Health to wealth is so many things. Most of all, it’s about changing lives through natural 100% plant based medicine. I wouldn’t be telling you about it or f I haven’t tried it, seen results, and all the miracle stories are just amazing!

Are store bought hair products just as good as professional products?

No! There’s a reason hair products that are sold inside those neighborhood stores and drugstores are so much cheaper.

I always tell my clients this, first of all, all products have a shelf life. Once that shelf life is expired they are usually then sold to these neighborhood stores at discounted rates. They are no longer as potent or as useful as they should be or once were. Also, they use harsher chemicals and ingredients, which is no bueno. They leave layers of buildup all over your hair and you’ll end up having to buy more products, spending more money, to remove the buildup.

You don’t need to spend a ton of money on professional hair products. Yes there are different price levels to products but don’t they always say, you get what you pay for? Professional products might cost a little more, but they will help to maintain your investment, your hair. Everything from hair cutting, coloring, to extensions cost money. So why not get the most of your investments by taking care of them to get the longevity you desire.

Some product lines I recommend are Bumble and bumble and Davines.

Is not shampooing your hair good for it?

Many of you have came into the salon saying ‘I didn’t wash it bc I heard it was better’. Well, the answer is no. You definitely should shampoo your hair at the scalp to remove build up. Whether the build up is from products or environmental factors, they block your hair follicles and affect hair growth. In addition to it probably being a little stinky.

Having said that, there is a limit as to how much you should actually shampoo. You definitely shouldn’t shampoo everyday as that would dry out your hair or strip your hair of its natural oils, products and color. That can contribute to it being frizzy and dry. People with thick, coarse hair can go 3-5 days between shampoos while those with finer textures can go about 2-3 days between shampoos.
